كما قال الإمام محمد بن يوسف السنوسي في شرح وسطاه ، أدركته الشفقة على عموم المسلمين وكثير من خواصهم بسبب ما حل من الفساد في العقائد ، فأقرأ هذا العلم وصنف فيه كتباً مختلفة الأساليب اختصاراً وتطويلاً ، بياناً وتفصيلاً ، ولكنها كلها كثيرة الفوائد عظيمة العوائد ، ومن أشهرها الكبرى والوسطى والصغرى وصغرى الصغرى والحفيدة ،وأشهر هذه أوسطها: الصغرى ، المسماة بأم البراهين ، والمشهورة بالسنوسية .وقد شرح المصنف صغراه شرحاً عجيباً ، وكتب العلماء عليه الكثير من الحواشي والتقريرات ، كما شرحها كثيرون بعده أجادوا و أفادوا غير أن من أفضل شروحها شرح العلامة التونسي إبراهيم المارغني رحمه الله تعالى ، وهو شرح واضح العبارة ، سلس الأسلوب ، سهل المأخذ ، اعتمد فيه مؤلفه على شرح المصنف وغيره .
